Cameron County authorities charged 45‑year‑old Aldo Vargas with murder after he allegedly beat his 43‑year‑old wife, Dulce Vargas, to death with an unknown blunt object. Deputies responded Sunday to the 29,000 block of Siesta Lane in Bayview after Vargas called 911; Dulce was found unresponsive with multiple injuries and pronounced dead at the scene. Aldo Vargas is being held at the Cameron County Carrizales‑Rucker Detention Center awaiting arraignment.

The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi, together with Cameron County rangers and beach patrol, halted a six‑hour search for a missing kayaker off South Padre Island after covering 168 square nautical miles. The effort began Saturday around 4:30 p.m. when beachgoers reported a kayak about 400 yards offshore; the empty vessel remained visible but the paddler was not found. The search was suspended pending further developments.

The Texas Department of Public Safety arrested Eduardo Hernandez for a fatal hit‑and‑run that occurred Sunday at 12:02 a.m. on State Highway 4 west of FM 511. Hernandez was driving a silver 2024 Jeep Wrangler, struck a pedestrian lying in the westbound lane, and fled without rendering aid. He was taken to the Cameron County Jail and faces charges for failing to stop and provide aid.
