The city is split into four brush zones; each zone receives service once a month. Collection crews start on a Monday and work for one full week, so residents must place brush at the curb by Sunday night before their zone's week. Accepted items include yard trimmings, branches (3‑6 ft long, ≤6 in diameter), furniture, appliances (no CFCs) and small C&D debris, placed a few feet away from the brush pile and clear of mailboxes, wires, or vehicles. Uncollected items include metal, stones, vines, stumps, lumber, electronics, and construction debris. Residents can also drop off brush or bulky items for free at the Edinburg Regional Landfill with a driver’s license and a current utility bill.
A $5 service charge is added to each residential water bill for the blue recycling cart. Containers must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled day and returned by 7:00 p.m.; there is no set pickup time. Do not bag recyclables and you may mix paper, cardboard, #1‑#2 plastics, aluminum and steel cans, and rinsed containers in the cart. Glass, large items, sharps, and styrofoam are not accepted; glass can be taken to the Resource Recovery Center (open Mon‑Fri 8:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m., Sat‑Sun 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.). Stolen carts are reported to the Edinburg Police at (956) 381-7411, then call (956) 381-5635 to request a replacement.
The landfill is located at 8601 North Jasman Road. Hours are Monday‑Friday 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Residents may dispose of their own household waste for free with proof of residency (Texas driver’s license or ID and a current city utility bill). Tires are free up to four per year; additional tires cost $5 each. All other waste is charged $8.33 per cubic yard with a $25 minimum load. Loads must be tarped; uncovered loads incur a 15 % surcharge. The same rates apply to businesses and non‑contract haulers, with a higher rate of $11.67 per cubic yard for outside haulers.
