State seeks death penalty for two suspects in Peñitas double homicide
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Ricardo González Jr., 38, and Pedro Ismael García, 24, charged with homicide for the deaths of Mario Morales Jr. and María del Socorro Farias, after an investigation that began on February 3 in Peñitas when a brush fire uncovered two bodies. Co‑defendants Alejandro López and Juan Antonio Alvarado face homicide charges, but the state will not seek the death penalty against them.

Penitas man, 68, dies in crash after driver of Ford F-250 runs stop sign
A 68-year-old Penitas man died after a Ford F‑250 driver ran a stop sign and collided with his Kia Optima, then struck a FedEx truck in a three‑vehicle crash on Texan Road and 5 Mile Line north of Palmview. The Ford driver, a passenger, and the FedEx driver were taken to hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries, and the crash remains under investigation.
